A Guide to France
The Light Sport Flying School

Flying to France can seem a little daunting, it means going across the water and dealing with French air traffic, not to mention flight plans, the route and weather.
Well this page is designed to give you an idea of what its like and to help you plan the trip.
Firstly its like any other trip short or long, it needs careful and detailed planning. Lets start with with the route, we are flying from Wycombe to Le Touquet, We could say there are three possible routes. Direct! North of the TMA or South of the TMA. Okay we can go through the TMA with special VFR but its unlikely that we would get clearance. And do we need al that pressure just to save 10 minutes.
The southern route can be nice, down to Shorham and along the coast but we will plan for the north route as shown on the chart.
Wycombe to BNN Bovingdon VOR, then to LAM Lamborne VOR (Stapleford) then direct to Cap Griz Nez, coasting out at Folkstone. Just past mid channel we leave EGTT airspace and enter French airspace LFFF then its along the north French coast over Boulogne and into Le Touquet.
So we have a route and the weather is looking okay for the flight (we hope) in addition
to the TAFs we also need to check the NOTAMS, you already know the AIS web site and
we have done a narrow route brief. Next we need to PPR Le Touquet this can be done
on line at http://www.aeroport-
As we are crossing an international boundary we have to submit a flight plan, this is done on line at https://ts1.flightplanningonline.co.uk/ you may need to speak with an instructor and get some help completing this form. Remember that all times on the flight plan are GMT.
